Your Bridal Fitting Process

Your first bridal fitting can feel exciting and a little overwhelming. Here is how the process works at S.O.S. Alterations and Designs, so you know what to expect at every step.

About three to four months before the wedding: book your consultation

Book your first appointment once you have your gown. At the consultation you try on the dress, we talk about how you want it to fit and feel, and we pin and plan the changes. If you are not sure yet, we will walk you through the options.

About 8 to 12 weeks before: first fitting

Your first fitting is where the main work begins. Bring the shoes and undergarments you will wear on the day so hems and bodice changes are set to the right measurements.

The following weeks: follow-up fittings

Most gowns need more than one fitting. Each visit lets us check the fit as the work progresses and make small adjustments.

One to two weeks before: final fitting

You try on your finished gown with your shoes and accessories. We show you, or whoever helps you on the day, how to bustle the train, and the dress is ready to go home.

What to bring to every fitting

  • Your wedding shoes
  • The undergarments you will wear
  • Accessories that affect the fit, like a belt, veil or jewelry
  • A friend or family member who will help you dress on the day, if possible
